Since the first Virginia Career Network event held in November 2008 (shortly after Circuit City handed out the first 1,000 pink slips), over 800 people have joined, participated and since left VirginiaCareerNetwork.com for greener pastures.
Today, VirginiaCareerNetwork.com has 700 members who have joined during the last 12 months to participate in our career networking and educational events. Event organizers have promoted 357 career networking, motivational and educational events since November 2008. These have been attended by present members, past members and guests. Present day members have generated 6,627 RSVP’s to events held during their respective memberships. These statistics were not tracked for the previously departed members, but it is likely quite a bit higher as our numbers were so much higher through the end of last summer. TODAY, VirginiaCareerNetwork.com, the organization, has NO EXPENSES and NO INCOME. We have had countless volunteers from the business community to make all this possible. We have had a number of companies and universities contribute meeting space and resources to make all this possible. WE CONTINUE TO HAVE CHALLENGES and welcome those who want to step up and contribute their time or company’s resources, even if only once or twice or from time to time. In my opinion, these are some of our bigger challenges: 1 – attracting new volunteers to prevent burn-out in the volunteers we currently have and appreciate. 2 – attracting new volunteer presenters to create engaging, motivating, educational and/or inspiring events for the job seekers who attend these events. 3 – attracting more corporate or governmental participation for providing meeting space every so often, presentation resources or both |
