Announcing a new and very different Meetup for Virginia Career Network!
What: Walk (and network) for MS When: Saturday, May 1, 2010 8:00 AM Where: Markel Plaza in Innsbrook 4600 Cox Rd. Glen Allen, VA 23060 This is a great opportunity for all of us to get together in an organized setting that supports a great cause. For those of you who have fine tuned those "elevator speeches", here is a relaxed setting where you may actually get an opportunity to use that speech, or not. Either way, what a great opportunity for camaraderie. This is also an opportunity for our group to gain recognition. We have the numbers to get noticed. Getting noticed is half the battle. Lets get out there, walk for a cause and use this opportunity to maybe make a connection that matters. My second challenge is for you to Register Here through the Walk for MS web site where you can join the Virginia Career Network team and commit to make a donation or solicit others to donate to this cause. My last request is to those of you who like to lead, I could use some help pulling this off so let me know if you are interested in doing more. As a team, I would hope we might be able to get at least 100 participants and raise at least $5,000 for this cause. That's the pie in the sky. I'm not sure if that's to high or too low, but time will tell. Here are excerpts from an article written by Nancy Carey with Examiner.com: May 1st – MS Walk 2010 will take to the streets The Central Virginia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will take to the streets on May 1st for the MS Walk 2010. Last year they had just under 2,000 participants; this year their goal is to have over 2,000 participants. MS affects an estimated 2.5 million people worldwide, 400,000 in the United States, and 10,000 people in Virginia. Every week about 200 people are diagnosed. It is often diagnosed in individuals aged 20-50, although individuals as young as two and as old as 75 have developed it. It is the most common neurological disease leading to disability in young adults. There are many ways you can "Join the Movement" at the MS WALK 2010: walk as an individual, become a virtual walker, create a volunteer team or volunteer. Doing any of these will keep NMSS moving forward and one step closer to finding a cure for MS. There is no registration fee, but participants must register, and are encouraged to fundraise. The MS Walk includes a one and three mile courses, lunch, vendors, music and kids play area. It also includes the MS Pooch Parade. You must be a registered walker to participate in the MS Pooch Parade.
